2018 Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion Tio Ellinas will be making the step up to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup for 2019 with the championship winning Lechner Racing team.

Despite taking only one victory in the 2018 Carrera Cup GB series, Cypriot Ellinas beat season-long rival Dino Zamparelli to the title in the last weekend of the series at Brands Hatch by just two points, with a consistent performance throughout the year, finishing off of the podium only three times out of sixteen races.

Ellinas announced the move on his social media channels , stating “I’m proud and honoured to announce that next year I’ll be participating in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup with Lechner Racing.

“First of all I want to thank the guys behind the scenes that made this deal a reality and also to Walter Lechner for giving me the opportunity to be part of his Supercup team for 2019. Let’s race…”

The reigning Carrera Cup GB champion has already had a taste of the Lechner Racing team after taking part in the first round of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East, securing a victory against reigning champion Al Faisal Al Zubair along with two more second place finishes.

In 2018 Lechner Racing run three teams in the Supercup, BWT Lechner Racing, who took the overall title and run championship winner Michael Ammermüller and Thomas Preining, MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing who run Dylan Pereira and Josh Webster, and the Lechner Racing Middle East team of Al Faisal Al Zubair and Pro-Am champion Roar Lindland.

Porsche Carrera Cup GB runner up Dino Zamparelli was among Lechner Racing guest drivers in the Supercup in 2018 when he drove in the fourth round of the championship at the British Grand Prix, where he finished in seventh place against championship regulars.
