Sean Gelael, test driver for Red Bull Toro Rosso Honda has said he enjoyed “every lap” he spent in the car during the post-season test in Abu Dhabi.
The Indonesian, who is currently competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, spent the first day of testing in the car, with the car in the hands of Russian Daniil Kyvat, who is making a return to Toro Rosso and F1 next season, partnering Alexander Albon.
Gelael was hired by the Italian outfit in 2017 to drive in four practice sessions during the season – Mexico, Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States.
He has continued this role into 2018, driving in the in-season test in Barcelona, running a total of fifty laps on the first day, before an oil leak required an engine change. On the second day, he completed a total of eighty-three laps, the fastest being a 1:20.763, which was good enough to place him twelfth out of thirteen runners.
“One-hundred-and-fifty laps! That’s always going to be a good day. It was great being back in the car again, and I enjoyed every lap of it!,” said Gelael.
“I gathered a lot of data and feedback for the team, which is key. For sure, we wanted to be further up on the timing screen, but our focus yesterday was on race simulations, which went quite well!”
