Gronholm RX have confirmed that Reinis Nitiss will return to drive the team’s third car in Latvia alongside full-time drivers Niclas Gronholm and Timur Timerzyanov in the FIA World Rallycross Championship.

The post on the official GRX facebook read:

Before we hit the track at #CanadaRX, we have some great news – our Development Driver Reinis Nitišs will be back in the car for #LatviaRX! #GRXTaneco #WorldRX“.

Nitiss recovered from this huge crash to take a podium in Sweden IMG: FIAWorldRallycross.com

Nitiss impressed the masses at the previous round in Sweden after a stunning recovery drive to third overall after rolling the car in turn one of Qualifying 1, finishing behind Kevin Hansen and Sebastian Eriksson.

He will be looking to impress in front of his home fans, as will Janis Baumanis who came tantalizingly close to a first podium at home in 2016.

Nitiss’ first and only win to-date came in Norway in 2014 in only his third event in the World Rallycross championship.A new winner at the Bikernieki circuit is guaranteed with Johan Kristofferson and Sebastian Loeb not taking part in the championship this season. Can Nitiss end his drought of wins at home in Latvia?

The seventh round of the FIA World RX championship gets underway tomorrow and you can catch all the action on the official FIA World RX YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/RallycrossRXTV
