Young rally driver Pontus Lönnström entered his first event in the Junior World Rally Championship at Rally Sweden in Värmland last weekend with his co-driver Stefan Gustavsson.

Lönnström got off to a rough start when he suffered a puncture early on the first stage of the rally, losing several minutes, but he found the speed during the race and was able to drive home an eighth place in the Junior WRC class. In addition, he was the fastest on two of the nine stages of the rally.

“It’s been a pretty good rally. We got off to a bad start, but it got better towards the end. We did not initially have the speed to increase as well and also took two stretch wins, so we are satisfied.” Lönnström said

The season-opener was won by Swedish driver Tom Kristensson and co-driver Joakim Sjöberg. The next Junior WRX will be run on 4-7 June at Rally Sardinia.
