Hubert Haupt, experienced racer and real estate developer, has announced that he will lead a new team running a Mercedes AMG GT3 for the 2020 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup season.
With Black Falcon stepping back from professional GT racing to focus on its customer programmes, Haupt has been able to put together a strong driver line up full of experienced and proven winners. Vincent Abril, Maro Engel, and Luca Stolz are all very strong competitors and will make the new HRT squad a challenger at every race.
It’s not just the drivers that have come over either, key personnel has also joined HRT. Sean Paul Breslin comes in as team principal, Marvin Wagner joins as technical director and engineer Renaud Dufour joins as well. The team will also receive support from Mercedes-AMG for the Total 24 Hours of Spa this season.
“I am really looking forward to the new challenge, Throughout my years in motorsport, I have always had this idea of setting up my own team. I know that this involves a lot of commitment and a huge responsibility. But with the future constellation and these top people at my side, I am convinced that establishing HRT is the right decision,” said Haupt.
“Especially now, in difficult times for sporting events, I also wanted to give a sign that things are continuing and that I am keeping my faith in the fascination of motorsport. I am convinced that, with HRT, we will find our place among the top teams in GT3 racing really soon.”
HRT will debut at Imola, which kicks off the revised Endurance Cup schedule on 25-26 July.
