British NASCAR Whelen Euro Series fans will have to wait another year to see their series in action. On Thursday, the series announced the American SpeedFest at Brands Hatch has been cancelled due to logistical complications related to COVID-19.

“We’re obviously very disappointed that we won’t be hosting the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series in 2020,” said MSV Motorsport events manager David Willey. “It’s an event that we all love putting on, but it simply wasn’t possible for us to find a way to make a replacement date work this year.”

The pandemic had taken a toll on the 2020 Euro Series schedule, with Brands Hatch being briefly set as the season opener in early June before Motorsport UK suspended racing licences through the end of the month. When a revised schedule was revealed later in June, Brands Hatch was excluded and instead listed as “TBC”.

With the situation continuing into July, forcing travel options and available race dates at Brands Hatch to be limited, there was little choice but to call off the 2020 event.

EuroNASCAR CEO Jerome Galpin described the cancellation as “a very exceptional situation and we have to act in the interest of all the parties involved, from teams and drivers to partners and sponsors. Our amazing fans are a huge part of the American SpeedFest and we will work together with MSV Motorsport to offer them the best ever event in 2021 and beyond.”

The 2020 season will kick off on 12–13 September at Autodromo di Vallelunga in Italy.
