The WRC Promoter has understandably had a difficult 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but could add a round to the FIA World Rally Championship season at the Monza Rally Show in December.
Earlier this month, the Ypres Rally was announced as the season ending event but the oragnisers of the event in Italy believe if that Belgian event can’t go ahead, they could help conclude the season instead.
This means that Italy would host two rounds this season, firstly the upcoming Rally Italia Sardegna next month and then if needed, the Monza Rally Show on the mainland. One of the main supporters of the idea is the Italian Federation that have shown genuine support for potentially hosting the event later this year.

The event is hosted on the world famous Monza circuit and usually attracts both WRC drivers and teams and has already been planned as a promotion event, similar to Rally Estonia last year, but believes they could run as a full championship round if needed.
The event could also use Pirelli’s test area at the circuit, especially given the fact they’re set to become tyre supplier to the series from next season when they replace Michelin.
A final announcement is expected shortly from the rally organisers and the WRC promoter who have regularly been in close dialogue to potentially make the event become a round of the WRC.
