The Spa World Rallycross of Benelux has been postponed due to the latest restrictions and control measures that have been put in place in Belgium to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Spa-Francorchamps was set to host the penultimate round of the 2020 FIA World Rallycross Championship on 21-22 November but there is now just one event left on the schedule, the World RX of Germany at the Nurburgring on 12-13 December which will complete the 2020 season.

The Spa event will instead now take place in May 2021, as part of next year’s World RX calendar.

The CEO of the event, Nathalie Maillet, said “This decision is related to an exceptional situation and even if this saddens all the teams who have worked so hard to hold this second edition, announced last week moreover to be held behind closed doors following the deterioration in the public health situation, our priority is and will remain the health of safety of everyone.”

“However, it is merely postponed to another time and we will offer you an even more exceptional edition next year. Be careful, heed the official recommendations, avoid unnecessary contacts and also take good care of those near and dear to you.”

The news follows the cancellation of the Ypres Rally last week, which was also set to take place in Belgium as part of the FIA World Rally Championship later this month before the increase in cases of COVID-19 in the country.
