Bart Horsten has joined Hitech GP for his second campaign in BRDC British F3. The Australian finished the 2020 season in tenth place, driving for the outgoing Lanan Racing, now Elite Motorsport.
He impressed in his maiden British F3 campaign, scoring three podiums including a second-place finish in Race 2 of the season finale at Silverstone.
Horsten, a race winner in FIA Formula 4 in 2019, also competed in Australian Formula Ford before moving to the UK.
He joins a team in Hitech who took Kush Maini to second place in the championship last season. While Horsten finished ahead of the other Hitech of Reece Ushijima in the standings, Maini’s runner-up campaign shows the performance is there.
Hitech took three wins and 14 podiums across the 2020 season, and Horsten joins them as they also enter their second season in the championship.
The Silverstone-based team will run three cars in British F3 this season, with Horsten the first driver to be announced. Speaking to hitechgp.co.uk, he said of the move:
“I really enjoyed competing in British F3 last year, so I feel as though it was the obvious choice to make a return for another season and this time with the intention of challenging for the championship.
“I’m really excited to be joining Hitech GP. They are an amazing team in terms of their professionalism, their facilities and the resources at their disposal.
“There’s a lot that can be achieved for myself and the team in 2021, so I cannot wait to start working with the team in earnest.”
Hitech Team Principal, Oliver Oakes, is similarly positive ahead of the new campaign.
“We are excited to welcome Bart to the team. He had a strong rookie season last year in British F3, impressing us with his natural speed and approach. We look forward to seeing him develop into a championship contender.”
Due to delays caused by COVID-19, Horsten won’t turn a wheel competitively for Hitech GP until the season-opening weekend of 22-23 May at Brands Hatch.
