Two-time Porsche Carrera Cup France champion and current Porsche Junior Ayhancan Güven is making the move to the BWT Lechner Racing squad as he heads in to battle for the 2021 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup championship.
The 23-year-old collected the Rookie Championship title in 2019 and has been in the fight for the championship over the last two seasons with the martinet by Alméras team but is looking to go the extra mile and take the title with the powerhouse team that too the Teams’ championship last season.
The Turkish driver took two victories and another two second-place finishes in 2020 as he battled with Larry ten Voorde, Dylan Pereira, Jaxon Evans and Florian Latorre for the championship. Güven would eventually finish the year in third place after a retirement in the last race of the season at Monza.
Team Principal Robert Lechner commented, “I’m very much looking forward to finally being able to work with Ayhancan, who even at his rather young age is already an experienced Supercup race winner and definitely championship material.
“He will be a great addition to our driver line-up, a very valuable asset to the team. I very well remember our first conversation at the Porsche Night of Champions at Weissach in 2018 – we immediately got on very well and have stayed in touch ever since.
“Later on I introduced him to my father, remarking that ‘this is a driver to be signed by Lechner Racing sooner or later.’ So I am very happy that this cooperation is now becoming reality!”
Güven added, “I can´t wait to start working with Robert and his team for the new season. My aim is to make Walter proud and keep the Lechner Racing family on top in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, where they have been for many years already.”
