The Porsche Carrera Cup GB will join a former single-seater champion in the Pro class for the 2021 season with the record-breaking Kiern Jewiss making the switch to sports car racing.
Jewiss will join Team Parker Racing as he looks to build on an impressive start to his racing career. After claiming 195 trophies in karting, the 19-year-old made the switch to car racing in 2017 where he picked up the Rookie Championship in Ginetta Juniors. The following year he dominated the F4 British Championship, scoring a record-breaking number of points and podium finishes.
Over the last two seasons the Kent racer has been competing in the BRDC British F3 Championship, collecting two victories and ten podiums. Along with his success he was named a BRDC SuperStar and a finalist in the then-titled McLaren Autosport BRDC Award.
“It’s great to finally confirm my place in Porsche Carrera Cup GB,” said Jewiss. “The championship is very competitive, and with the calibre of drivers on the grid it really feels like a natural step up from the BRDC British F3 Championship. I think Porsche has created a very attractive package with its prizes and potential progression, too.
“It was a simple decision to join Team Parker Racing with the success they had last year and my target is pretty straightforward; to win the title! Having Harry [King] alongside me in the team will be a challenge but also a great reference. I can’t wait to get started.”
Jewiss joins an impressive line-up across all three classes within Carrera Cup GB with Harry King in the Pro class, as well as Ryan Ratcliffe in Pro-Am, and Justin Sherwood and Justin Armstrong in the Am class.
Team Principal Stuart Parker knows that Jewiss has the potential to be a front-runner with the team, despite the switch from open wheeled racing to sports cars.
“We are delighted to welcome Kiern to the team. Everything has happened quite quickly over the past few months, but he has consistently proved to be quick in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car despite it being a big change from the single seaters he has been racing,” said Parker.
“It was no fluke that he was a McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalist and drove so well in both Ginetta and F4, so we’re really happy to have him as part of the team as we aim to repeat as much success in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB as possible.”
