The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was another brilliant race for the McLaren F1 Team in terms of their constructors championship hope, Lando Norris produced an excellent drive to score his second podium finish in Formula 1 and Daniel Ricciardo got more crucial laps in the car coming home in sixth place.
Andrea Seidl – Team Principal of the McLaren Formula 1 Team feels that the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was a great spectacle for all of the fans and to come away from the race with a podium is a fantastic result for all of the teams and a just reward for all of the hard work put in by the team at the Factory and at the circuit.
“An exciting race today and a great show for the fans. A podium for Lando is a great reward for the whole team, and the hard work that’s gone in here at the track and back at the factory this weekend – but also for the effort over the winter to get us to this point from the team in Woking and our colleagues at Mercedes.”
It was a fantastic call to put on the soft trye after the red flag which gave both cars the edge after the restart and Norris took advantage of this passing Charles Leclerc on the run down into turn 1. The British driver was excellent throughout the weekend managing everything that was thrown at him which resulted in a podium that was well-deserved.
“Great call today to restart on the Soft tyre after the red flag. That gave us an edge and allowed Lando to take the place from Charles [Leclerc]. Lando was flying all weekend and managed a lot of tricky situations today in difficult conditions. He and his team managed brilliantly to get this well-deserved podium.
“Daniel did a great job too. He’s not yet fully confident in the car – which is understandable – but he put in a clean race, made good decisions and scored a lot of points that will be valuable both for himself and for the team.”
After two very strong showings from he team Seidl and the rest of McLaren have their sights firmly set on the next round of the Formula 1 calendar which takes place in Portimão.
“After two strong weekends to start the season, we now have our sights set on keeping the momentum going in Portimão.”
