The Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One Team move onto this weekends French Grand Prix on the back of an Azerbaijan Grand Prix full of emotion for the team, both positive and negative.
Azerbaijan saw the return of Sebastian Vettel to the podium as well as Aston Martin’s first podium in their Formula 1 history. The team and Vettel have both found their form in recent races, and the German is hoping that his performances will remain consistent for the rest of the season, especially with the other midfield teams improving their game.
“I think we’re coming into this race on a high after the success of Baku,” said Vettel. “There’s been time to celebrate, but now I’m fully focused on maintaining our momentum in France.
“We’ve brought home a decent points haul in Monaco and Azerbaijan, and we need to keep up the consistent form in what is proving to be an extremely close midfield battle this year.”
“I’m determined to bounce back” – Lance Stroll
For Vettel’s team-mate Lance Stroll, it was a horrible end to his Azerbaijan Grand Prix, after suffering a dramatic tyre failure down the 2.22km main straight.
Since the incident Pirelli have released a statement as to the reasoning of the incident. Nevertheless Stroll is hoping to bounce back strongly this weekend in France at a circuit which tests every aspect of a modern Formula 1 car.
“My race in Baku ended in disappointment, but the whole team can take positives from our race pace and the boost Sebastian’s podium gave us all,” said Stroll. “I’m determined to bounce back strongly in France.
“Paul Ricard is a good all-rounder and tests every aspect of a Formula 1 car, so I’m looking forward to seeing how the AMR21 performs this weekend.”
