The all-new American rallycross series Nitro Rallycross have now announced more details regarding the upcoming 2022 season when the series will be taking a global step with races held outside of North America and the teams committed for the new electric support class.

From rallycross all the way to INDYCAR and off-road racing series, there are seven teams confirmed from Europe and North America that have committed to the inaugural championship in the new class, which includes these teams; Vermont SportsCar, Gronholm RX, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, Olsbergs MSE, XiTE Racing and Good Times racing, and one more to be announced in due course.

Using the SUV-based FC1-X developed by Olsbergs MSE and the Spanish firm QEV Technologies. The FC1-X will be the first rallycross platform to be built with lightweight in mind, same as the Supercar Lites single-make cars, the FC1-X uses a tubular steel frame chassis and the electric drivetrain will be producing 1,000bhp, 0-60mph in 1.5 seconds and a top speed of 180mph.

With nine cars being confirmed to enter next year out of the 16 limit so far, the series do hope for car manufacturers to join in the feature as the cars will be fitted with bespoke bodyworks which allows manufacturers and teams a like to select their own bodies.

“We have worked closely with the teams and manufactures to build the very best Rallycross car ever developed,” Joe Carr, CEO of Thrill One Sports and Entertainment, said.

“This collaboration and buy-in is a testament to their belief in NRX as the future of Rallycross. From the first announcement that Nitro Rallycross was expanding into a global series, industry response has been tremendous, this far-reaching commitment from some of the most prominent teams in motorsport demonstrates their strong confidence in the property and the direction we are headed.”

“We are seeing a lot of excitement about the FC1-X. With nine sales already secured and more purchase orders expected soon, we are very confident that we will sell out the entire 16-car field ahead of our inaugural electric season in 2022.”

The 2021 season of Nitro Rallycross will fire-up at the birthplace of NRX in Utah, USA on 24/25 September and will be run wtih four more rounds until at the end of the year.
