Jack Sherwood is stepping up to the GB4 Championship with Elite Motorsport for the 2022 season.

The 15-year-old graduated from Ginetta Juniors after finishing fifteenth in the final in 2021 in his first season out of karting. Sherwood finished eighth in the field on four occasions.

Sherwood claimed the ‘Hard Charger’ award for being the driver who gained the most places from their grid slots over the course of the weekend, gaining 20 positions in the four races in order to achieve three top 10 finishes.

Ahead of the season opening, Sherwood has enjoyed several days of testing in the Elite GB4 car.

My main goals this year are to score some good points for myself and Elite. I’m really looking forward to the challenges ahead. It’s a new car for all the teams on the grid so I think there will be an element of learning the car throughout the season for everyone,” said Sherwood.

“I really enjoyed competing in the Ginetta Junior Championship last year with Elite but felt that 2022 was the right time to make the step into single seaters. I wanted to make this transition with Elite and when they informed us of its proposed GB4 programme, it gave us an immediate opportunity to not only continue with Elite but make the jump in to single-seaters.

“From the moment I joined Elite, I’ve felt really at home. I get on well with the team and during last year they showed their professionalism and skill. Elite has also given me the facilities and people to improve and become a more rounded driver. I am looking forward to continuing to work hard with the team. I’m looking to become a more rounded and overall better driver.”

Elite Motorsport Team Owner and Manager, Eddie Ives, added, “The GB4 category is something I’ve been working hard on since MSV’s initial announcement of the championship and fits in well with our GB3 campaign which we carry into a second season.

“The car is a brilliant entry level single-seater and it’s exactly what the British Junior motor racing scene required. It’s an exciting time for the team to be part of this new championship.

“I’m really pleased to announce that we’ll enter two-cars in GB4 and delighted to have Jack onboard. We have started our testing programmes and he’s already exceeding our expectations. I’m confident that we will hit the ground running come round one at Snetterton
