With the announcement made of a historic GT4 double-header, the racecard for the 2022 Silverstone Classic is complete and is an August bank-holiday event not to be missed!

It will be the first-ever time that a GT4 double-header has taken place at the gold standard historic racing festival, where fans in attendance and those watching around the world will be able to witness two thirty-minute sprint races. The GT4 races takes the Classic’s total number of events to twenty, with historic cars set to take centre stage.

The Classic which will take place on the August bank holiday weekend for the first-time (26-28 August), will have the most comprehensive retro race programme it has ever put on show.

Titled the ‘Masters GT4 Classic Silverstone Challenge’, a thirty-minute race will take place on both Saturday and Sunday with the entries split into two categories. The two groups will see all current GT4 cars which are still eligible to race globally in one, and a classic group for all those that aren’t.

A number of the world’s top manufacturers have competed in GT4 championships across the world, including, Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche. Whilst a full-entry list is yet to be announced, it is highly likely that the majority of these will be taking part in the two-day challenge. The Corvette C6, KTM X-Bow, Lotus Evora, Sin R1, Ginetta G55 and Nissan 350Z could all possibly be in contention too to make an appearance.

Nick Wigley, CEO of The Classic promoter Goose Live Events believes adding GT4 races to the programme adds “another ace” to the Silverstone Classic.

“Time never stands still and every new year brings exciting new opportunities for us to expand our incredible portfolio of races at The Classic – and the enthralling Masters GT4 Classic Silverstone Challenge is the latest of these terrific innovations. The addition of such fantastic GT4 supercars not only adds yet another ace to The Classic’s already impressive pack but also ensures this summer’s on-track bill will be the most comprehensive ever, spanning the last 100 years of glorious motor racing history.”

Masters Historic Racing in association with SRO Motorsports Group, will oversee the GT4 event at the Classic. Ron Maydon, Masters Founder and President, is very much looking forward to working with the incredible GT4 cars, which were introduced back in 2007.

“We are delighted to be working with Stephane Ratel and his SRO Motorsports Group to pull together this new and exciting grid for GT4 cars at The Classic this year. We are sure that the huge crowd are going to appreciate these stunning cars and we are looking forward to learning a lot more about modern GT racing in the process!”
