Alex Dunne managed to recover from a tough start to take the win past Ugo Ugochukwu.

Although Dunne qualified on pole, it was Ugochukwu who took the lead from the line at Campbell.

During lap four, Ugochukwu opened a gap for Dunne at the exit of Seagrave which he seized and powered on to take his fourth win of the season.

Dunne commented: “I think that was a bit more of a tough race than I’ve had so far, the pole grid spot is quite close to the lights, and with the Halo it’s actually quite tough to see the lights, so that’s why I got a pretty bad start.

From then on, I was following Ugo. I’m not sure on what lap, but in turn four he hit a bump and made a mistake and drove off the track. I managed to get by, and from then on it was the same as I’ve done every other race, just to get my head down and focus on building a gap.”

Ugochukwu claimed second just 3.1 seconds behind Dunne and claimed the fastest lap of the race.

Ugochukwu commented: “It was quite a good start. I managed to get the lead into turn three, I was working really hard after that, but a small mistake out of turn four cost me the lead and then we were a bit slower at the end. I couldn’t catch back up, so it’s a bit frustrating.”

We will do more research with the engineers tonight to try to get faster and come back tomorrow. You want to be consistent through this championship. So, I’m looking forward to race two tomorrow. A reverse grid so will be difficult, but we’ll do our best.”

Oliver Gray claimed a steady third, seizing the final podium spot for Carlin

Gray commented: “I didn’t have the best start but managed to keep up with the leaders and defend my place into T1 from Louis and Aiden. I made a little mistake, which dropped me back from Alex and Ugo, so they were just sort of cruising from then on.

“I had a big gap back behind and a big gap out front, so I took the opportunity to experiment with a few different lines to see if we can find any more time. I’m focusing on tomorrow now.”

The battle for fourth was on until the grid spread out midfield and Louis Sharp and Aiden Neate made contact out of the Club chicane, which resulted in Sharp’s car half spinning. Sharp managed to recover the car and resumed the race.

Neate managed to claim fourth despite having Joseph Loake for company, until a post race penalty was given for the incident with Sharp and he dropped to 14th.

Dimitrov and Coseteng were another pair to make contact with each other at Club. Dimitrov came out the better of the pair and remained fifth however Coseteng dropped to 11th, but managed to recover to sixth.

Guinchard was also battling for the position but managed to secure seventh, keeping Edward Pearson behind, finishing eighth.

Michael Shin claimed the final points position in tenth.
