The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has given Thursday evening’s EKO Acropolis Rally Greece super special stage which plays host for the rally opener his seal of approval after visiting the specially-built stage inside the Athens Olympic Stadium on Wednesday evening during a press event.
Mitsotakis got the chance to drive the super special stage with an M-Sport Poland built all-wheel-drive Ford Fiesta Rally3 and he was joined by the Estonian Ken Torn in the co-driver seat who was giving advice and guided the Prime Minister around the stadium and also jumped in a Toyota GR Yaris road car together with the Toyota Gazoo Racing team principal Jari-Matti Latvala behind the wheel – who has driven the super special stage back in 2006 when it last appeared on the Acropolis Rally schedule.
The rally made a comeback to the FIA World Rally Championship calendar in 2021 following an eight-year absence. The stadium got renovated back in 2004 and can now seat up to 70,000 rally fans.

“Driving the rally car is an incredible experience, I have never done that before. I think you can get a feeling for how demanding this sport really is.” the Prime Minister said.
“We are tremendously excited to have the Acropolis back for a second year after a very long hiatus, everyone is extremely excited and we are really happy that we will be able to rediscover some of the iconic landscapes which are associated with it.” It’s a testament to the progress we have made that we are able to attract these top events. This is a country that loves its motorsport. In that sense, anything that is associated with the sport is going to be tremendously welcomed.”
