Despite failing to enter the top ten in yesterday’s practice for the Dutch Grand Prix, Scuderia AlphaTauri driver, Pierre Gasly, hopes the team will start qualifying feeling more confident after reviewing their performance in this weekend’s practice sessions.
The French driver posted the fourteenth fastest time in the first practice session, almost two seconds short of the quickest time set by George Russell.
The second practice session failed to provide any victory for the Frenchman as he failed to climb up the grid, setting a lap time of 1.13.666 coming in at P16, five positions below his teammate Yuki Tsunoda.
After scoring points in last week’s Belgian GP, Gasly stated that the team has a lot of catching up to do if they hope to improve their racing this weekend at the Zandvoort circuit.
“It’s not been a great day for me really, I’ve not felt that happy with the car in either session. We also had to make some changes to the car at the start of FP2, which unfortunately cost us quite a lot of track time. So far, it’s been quite challenging, so we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us tonight and tomorrow, but I’m sure we’ll find some solutions and feel more confident heading into Quali.”

Yuki Tsunoda- “I think we’ve had an okay day”
Meanwhile, on the other side of the AlphaTauri garage, Galy’s teammate Yuki Tsunoda is looking on the bright side of the weekend sessions and is feeling positive about his performance.
After finishing Free Practice Session Two eleventh fastest, setting a lap time of 1.13.419, Tsunoda stated he wasn’t feeling as comfortable in the car as he may have hoped, going into the Dutch GP weekend.
“I think we’ve had an ok day, up until that last stint in FP2. I was struggling with a lack of grip during my long run in FP2 and then, unfortunately, I hit a gust of wind and lost the car, going into the gravel trap. Overall, I’ve not felt that comfortable with the car today, but we’ve gained a lot of good data across both sessions, so we’ll go away tonight and look at this to try and put it all together for tomorrow.”
