Neither Toro Rosso driver was completely happy with how Friday practice in Singapore progressed: Jaime Alguersuari did not feel comfortable with his car and had to stop early whilst his team carried out precautionary checks on the car; FP2 finished prematurely for Sebastien Buemi after he hit a wall.
Williams may have finished Friday practice in sixteenth and seventeenth places on the timesheets in Singapore today, but both drivers seem reasonably optimistic that the team can pick things up before qualifying.
Sauber look in good shape for their weekend in Singapore after Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi finished Friday practice eighth and ninth on the timesheets.
Paul di Resta had a less-than-ideal start to his first Singapore Grand Prix weekend, completing only 21 laps over the course of the two Friday practice sessions.
The first session was cut short by 30 minutes whilst track repairs were carried out, and by a further 12 minutes after two red flag incidents. The Scot then suffered a technical problem in FP2, and could only complete 8 laps. He finished the day P13 on the timesheets.
“It wasn’t the best of days because what I really needed was time on track to help me learn the circuit,” said di Resta.
Narain Karthikeyan’s ‘preparation’ for next month’s Indian Grand Prix began today in Singapore as the 34-year-old took to the track for HRT in Free Practice 1.
However, it was not the session that the Indian driver would have wanted: first there was a delay of thirty minutes while repairs to the kerbs were carried out, and then two red flags further reduced his track time by approximately 12 minutes.
“It was fantastic to be back in the car today,” said Karthikeyan. “I brushed off all the cobwebs after two and a half months without driving. It was a good session even though being a new track for me it was not ideal.
