Plato tests RML run Cruze

1 Mins read

A Chevrolet UK backed team appears to be a step closer after the RML team tested a Chevrolet Cruze at Oulton Park today with Jason Plato at the wheel and Alex MacDowall present.

The team, which runs the cars in the FIA World Touring Car Championship for former BTCC drivers Yvan Muller, Rob Huff and Alain Menu. The Wellingborough based side won the BTCC title in 1999 when they ran the Nissan Primera for Laurent Aiello and David Leslie. They claimed the driver's title, the manufacturer's title and the team's title.

Plato, who 3 days before Brands Hatch was without a drive before securing a last minute deal with RML for a drive in one of their former WTCC Lacetti's, and Mat Jackson joined Plato at RML at Thruxton. Plato and Jackson completed the season under the Racing Silverline banner, while BTCC debutant James Nash ran under the RML banner.

Plato and Jackson were the form drivers during the second half of the season in their Lacetti's, and Plato took 7 wins en route to finishing runner up in the series, while Jackson took 8 consecutive podiums en route to fifth overall.

No official decision has been made as to whether the team will introduce the Cruze into the BTCC for 2010.

Alex MacDowall is also present at the Oulton Park test as he aims to secure a drive for the 2010 BTCC Campaign, and will test the car tomorrow with Plato in attendance.
