Hollamby to continue in BTCC in 2011 with YRC

1 Mins read

Fan-funded venture YourRacingCar will team up with AmD Milltek for the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, running current driver Shaun Hollamby, it was revealed on Wednesday.

The team will run an updated version of their current Volkswagen Golf, introducing a New Generation Touring Car-spec two-litre turbocharged engine.

The news comes after questions about Hollamby's future involvement in the sport, and the Kent driver is very pleased with the situation.

“Our debut season in the BTCC has been fantastic and the support we've had in our first year has been more than we could have hoped for,” he said.

“We've seen what YourRacingCar has been doing through the season and it's the ideal way for fans to get more involved with our racing programme.”

YRC boss Hannah James shares Hollamby's delight, and believes that the partnership can be a successful one throughout the season and in the future.

“After our outing at Silverstone, one thing was crystal clear when we spoke to our members,” she said, “and that is that the BTCC is where they wanted to be.

“We've been hard at work since Silverstone to look at the options available to us for 2011 but when Shaun and AmD Milltek Racing made the approach, it was a no-brainer for us.

“We're all looking forward to cheering on Shaun on track next season and are confident that he will do the YRC members proud.”

Hollamby recently won the BTCC.net Fans' Trophy for his efforts during the 2010 season, and is confident he can be a force next year.

“The reaction we had from YRC members at Donington Park after we offered to run the member pictures on the car was brilliant,” he continued, “and with the changes we are planning for the Golf over the winter, we hope to give all of the members – old and new – reason to cheer in 2011.”
