The 2011 DTM season is set to spark into life on April 10th as Wiesbaden once again hosts the season launch. After a successful event last year, the town will once again present the latest cars and drivers in front of the impressive backdrop of the Wiesbaden Kurhaus and the Wilhelmstraße.
The event will see Audi and Mercedes-Benz showcasing their new cars and driver line ups for the forthcoming DTM season. There will be plenty of entertainment for the fans, with driving and pit stop demonstrations by the DTM teams, as well as autograph sessions, stunt shows, live concerts, photo-shoots with the DTM Grid Girls and displays from the series sponsors and manufacturers.
The DTM support series will be on show too, with the Formula 3 Euro Series, the Porsche Carrera Cup, the Seat Leon Supercopa and the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup will series all represented, giving fans a chance to get up and close to the cars. The season launch in 2010 attracted 110,000 spectators, and with entry free of charge again, organisers hope to pull in a similar size crowd.
Board member of DTM's rights holder and promoter, and resident of Wiesbaden, Dr. Thomas Betzler says: “All visitors have the best memories of last year's event. Now, it is our aim, together with all our partners, to build on this impression to stage an even more impressive event. I am convinced that we will succeed in doing so.”
Mayor of Wiesbaden, Dr. Helmut Müller said: “The DTM is a real crowd-puller. Last year already, as Wiesbaden hosted the opening event of the popular touring-car series for the first time, some 110,000 motorsport fans, car lovers, autograph hunters and interested people came to participate and enjoy motorsport up close and the varied show programme for young and old. I am very happy that the capital of the federal state of Hessen with its unique atmosphere has been chosen again to host this fascinating event on April 10th, 2011. And I am certain that we can even exceed last year's crowd figure, when the weather is just as good as in 2010.”
