Biagi Delighted With Double Win And Points Lead

1 Mins read

Thomas Biagi enjoyed the perfect day at Portimao as he won both International Superstars Series races and took the lead of the drivers' standings.

After placing third in Saturday's qualifying session, Biagi got past both Team BMW Italia teammate Alberto Cerqui and Maserati driver Andrea Bertolini in the two races to score a double victory.

“In my career I never won race one and race two before therefore I am extremely happy with adding this result to my palmares,” said Biagi. “They have been two very challenging races both physically, due to the hot temperatures, and mentally as the race pace we kept was very high.

“The key point of race one was probably the good start that allowed me to overtake Bertolini while in race two the 30kg sportive ballast and the pressure from my team mate following me closely required the highest possible concentration in every single lap.”

The result moved Biagi to the head of the drivers' standings on76 points, ten ahead of nearest rival Luigi Ferrara. The next Superstars round takes place at Misano on 5th June, valid for the Italian championship only.

“These two victories award me with the temporary leadership in the classification of the International Series but also will give me 60kg sportive handicap weight: an awkward mate but also one I will be glad to carry on board in Misano.”
