Alberto Cerqui Tries Tom Coronel’s WTCC BMW

Superstars Series racer Alberto Cerqui got his first drive of the BMW 320TC used in the World Touring Car Championship in a test at Franciacorta in Italy yesterday.

The 19-year-old Italian completed more than 25 laps behind the wheel of the ROAL Motorsport car at the end of the test day, where he joined the team's regular WTCC racer Tom Coronel in their preparations for this weekend's races at Oschersleben in Germany.

Cerqui races for the ROAL-run BMW Team Italia squad in the Superstars Series, currently lying second in the standings in his debut season in tintops.

“The BMW 320TC amazed me, literally,” he said. “The agility in direction changes on kerbs is remarkable, as is the speed through corners while the braking intensity is impressive.  The 1.6 turbo engine has a peculiar way of giving the power that requires a bit of tweaking in driving style.

“I would like to thank the team for this extremely interesting experience that I hope can be repeated in the future,” he added.

Cerqui follows in the footsteps of his Superstars teammate Thomas Biagi, who tested the 320TC earlier in the year with a view to a race seat.
