DTM Calendar Gets Rhythm Broken Around Formula One Clash

by Alex Goldschmidt

Even though the 2013 calendar for all 10 races were pretty much set in stone, proud DTM race fans, who also follow Formula One, will be able to watch Sebastian Vettel race on home soil, at the German Grand Prix on the 7th of July, this has meant that the traditional race at the Norisring will be rescheduled to the following week, as well as another batch of alterations to the season layout.

“Due to the short-notice alterations on the Formula 1 calendar, we also had to respond by adapting the DTM calendar to the new situation,” explained ITR e.V Chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht, “By postponing the Norisring round by a week we avoid a scheduling conflict with the home race of Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel. Consequently, the fans aren’t forced to choose if they prefer attending the F1 race or the DTM round in Nuremberg. Thanks to this move, they have the chance of witnessing these two motor–racing highlights on two successive weekends.”

The seaside circuit of Zandvoort will now have its place in the calendar as the penultimate round of the championship, which will now take place on the 29th September, instead of July 21st, just three weeks before the finale at Hockenheim, as a result of logistical issues for the teams and drivers.

The race at Oschersleben now moves the calendar further into the autumn, which has been postponed for a further two weeks, along with the finale at Hockenheim now taking place on the 20th October.  So, fans who have already made plans for some of the races this season will have to change their plans, so as to accommodate their racing fixes for both race series. But rest assured that the fight for the DTM title next season will be just as electric as this one, as the series is going full speed and into new territory at the Moscow Raceway in August for 2013, as new champion Bruno Spengler looks to retain his trophy with BMW
