Four-time National Hot Rod World Champion Carl Boardley heads to Donington Park tomorrow to test drive the Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis.
The 36-year-old has a prestigious background in short oval racing with his four World Championship accolades and multiple other European, English and National championship titles and is looking to impress with his first drive in not just a touring car, but an NGTC at that.
Since leaving National Hot Rod racing full-time in 2009, the Ipswich driver has been learning his circuit racing trade in a race-winning fashion in the Pickup Truck Racing Championship. In the past three seasons, Broadley has amassed seven wins and 14 podiums. He recorded a victory and second place positions in the meeting at Donington Park this past season and he is also the lap record holder at the East Midlands circuit so he is looking forward to testing at a circuit where he has already had success.
He said: “Our aim of getting on to the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship grid is a serious one, this is the number one project to get the budget together. Donington Park is a circuit I love with the challenge of tackling the Craner Curves flat out something I can’t wait to do in the Toyota Avensis.
“Christian and Amy at Speedworks Motorsport have been extremely helpful in discussing my options for next year and we are already in talks with some major companies to get our budget together.
The chance to work with a professional team is something we are all extremely excited about.”
