Glock Has BMW Reunion For DTM Test In Valencia

1 Mins read

Following on from agreeing to leave the Marussia F1 Team earlier this week by mutual consent, Timo Glock is taking part in a somewhat nostalgic reunion of sorts this week, as he returns to his roots, by meeting up with BMW Motorsport to test the M3 DTM. Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director, was pleased that Timo was able to take up Munich’s offer to familiarize himself with the car, and then push himself behind the wheel. The “Circuit de la Comunitat” in Valencia will be the backdrop of the first set of tests for the 2013 campaign for BMW, who look to retain the hat trick of titles they won at Hockenheim.

We are pleased to be able to offer Timo Glock the opportunity to get to know our BMW M3 DTM in Valencia,”  said former Toyota F1 team boss Marquardt, who worked with Glock until the Japanese firm pulled out its F1 operation in 2009. “Timo has demonstrated his driving ability over many years, particularly in Formula One.”

Glock’s formative years in single seaters began with BMW Motorsport, which enabled him to make his way eventually into F1 in 2004 with Jordan Grand Prix, making his maiden appearance in Canada that year. He raced in the Formula BMW series in 2000 and 2001, and took the Formula BMW ADAC Championship in his second year. But things tend to come full circle in racing, as Timo returned to BMW once again, and alongside current triple World Champion Sebastian Vettel in 2007, became test driver for BMW Sauber F1, and that year won the GP2 series Championship.

It looks as if Timo is relishing the challenge of something new, as he leaves behind a Formula One career consisting of 91 races in total, but is hopeful for the future: “I have fond memories of my time with BMW Motorsport and am very excited about testing the BMW M3 DTM. Furthermore, I am bound to see a few familiar faces in Valencia from my previous time with BMW. I am really looking forward to it.”

The rumour mill may be near to its end, as to the identity of the final piece of the DTM puzzle for BMW Motorsport for 2013, but with a seasoned veteran behind the wheel, it looks very possible as to what happens next……
