The top three drivers from the 2012 Ginetta Junior Championship received their BTCC prize test today during the Ginetta Media Day at Silverstone.
Champion Charlie Robertson, runner-up Sennan Fielding and third placed driver Niall Murray were given the chance to run in a Speedworks Motorsport-prepared NGTC Toyota Avensis.
All three drivers had a twenty minute run in the car, with each adapting to it well to set competitive times.
“It was really good fun,” said Fielding. “The car’s completely different to what I’ve driven before, the front-wheel drive was new and it was great experience to get under my belt, I really enjoyed it.
“Ginetta have done a hell of a lot for me the past couple of seasons and I can’t thank them enough. They do a great package for young drivers and this was an awesome prize.”
“It was brilliant,” added Irishman Murray. “I’ve driven something in Ireland that powerful before, but it was nothing like that. It was worlds apart from the Ginetta we raced last year, especially the straight-line speed, it was amazing.
“To get a little taster of touring cars was brilliant and it’s made me want it even more now, so a massive thanks to Ginetta, Speedworks and everyone for giving me the opportunity, it was brilliant.”
