Wittmann Makes His Mark Again On Day 2

1 Mins read

Marco Wittmann has shown that his role as test and development driver for BMW Motorsport last season is coming up with the goods, with a second successive day at the top of the time sheets with changeable conditions throwing a curveball to all the teams, as they are busy trying to get their vehicles race ready for the first race of the season in matter of weeks.

The heavy rain was adding to the challenges set for all, but the track did eventually start drying out later on in the day’s proceedings. Wittmann posted a time of 1:33.227 around the 4.572km Hockenheim circuit, with Audi’s Miguel Molina only being 0.015 seconds behind the German. Mercedes-Benz found that 2012 F3 Euroseries Champion, Daniel Juncadella was their fastest driver, posting the eight fastest time of the day, with a 1:34.284.

Molina was the man covering the most mileage overall that day, covering a total of 139 laps, as the countdown to the end of the test continues at a feverish pace. 2011 Champion, Martin Tomczyk said that the balance of power is not quite yet known, as he is unable to draw any real conclusions from what has happened so far, but says that when the first race at Hockenheim is over, the writing will be on the wall on just who will be in the hunt for the title.

Juncadella was happy with his progress, as the Spanish driver was able to adapt to the conditions in his new office for 2013: “The tests were a great preparation for my first race. I’m on a good path and truly look forward to the season kick-off as the off-season was very long. In addition, I won’t have to cope with any pressure, on my first race weekend. I will just learn and gain experience.”
