DTM Practice At Brands Sees Close Racing To Come

1 Mins read

Before the only practice session of the weekend, the teams that work so hard behind the scenes were hard at work from the early hours of the morning, as Team MTEK were carrying out practice pit stops at around 7.30am to eradicate any potential mistakes during the race, as the clouds were lying over the skyline at Brands Hatch.

The sun would eventually bathe down on the 1.929km track, with track times hitting the 41 second mark, as Marco Wittman topped the timesheets with a 41.376, as the former test driver for BMW Motorsport was on the pace. His teammate at Team MTEK, ex-F1 driver Timo Glock, was running as high as P6 during the main body of the session.

The times were tumbling fast with the drivers only split by 6 tenths of a second, as the 22 drivers were seen to be rushing out at the last 10 minutes of the 90 minute session, to put in blistering hot laps.

Audi’s Mike Rockenfeller was trading fastest laps with Wittmann, and was second ahead of Hockenheim pole sitter Timo Scheider, with defending champion Bruno Spengler rounding out the top five. The three British drivers had showed some good lap times, but seem to be waiting until Qualifying gets underway.

Gary Paffett was 9th, with Jamie Green 12th and Andy Priaulx 13th, so they could be holding something back for the qualifying session at 1.40pm today. Practice doesn’t tell the whole story, as the teams have to work harder now to iron out all the kinks ready to optimize their chances to get the best result in tomorrow’s race…
