British Touring Car Championship star Colin Turkington will appear on the grid for the UK round of the Superstars International Series at Donington Park on September 1.
The 2009 champion will guest star in the race driving a BMW M3 prepared by Team Giudici when the touring car series heads to Donington at the start of next month, where he will join the likes of F1 star Vitantonio Liuzzi and Gianni Morbidelli, as well as his old BTCC championship rival, Fabrizio Giovanardi, who races a Porsche Panamera.
Turkington will follow the trend set by Tom Onslow-Cole last season, the Team HARD BTCC driver having raced a Jaguar last season in the International championship’s visit to Donington where he qualified an impressive third despite suffering a double retirement in the races which followed.
Turkington, currently fourth in the 2013 British Touring Car Championship standings after three wins in an eBay Motors BMW 125i, eagerly awaits his chance to race in the series, relishing the opportunity to rub shoulders with the likes of Liuzzi and former rival Giovanardi.
“I’m really curious to line-up for this SUPERSTARS race”, said Turkington. “I’ve always been fascinated by the series and I’m confident I’ll be able to take full advantage of my car’s potential. Even though I know the track really well, the races will be quite demanding.
“The general level of the championship is pretty high with drivers like Liuzzi and Morbidelli, and I’m looking forward to rejoin Giovanardi as I already raced against him in the BTCC.”
WSR Team Principal Dick Bennetts added: “We are happy to have Colin use this opportunity to compete in the SUPERSTARS Race of Donington. It will be quite a tough challenge for Colin, as he will be straight into free practice without testing the car, however I’m sure he’ll cope. Driving the powerful BMW M3 may help him in his BTCC efforts and the strong field of drivers will surely keep him honest”.
