Team West-Tec have announced they are rejoining the FIA F3 European Championship grid in 2014 with a pair of Mercedes powered Dallaras.
West-Tec, which have won 28 titles over a 24 year stint, have in recent years been a regular site in the European F3 Open which has seen the team use the current generation Dallara machinery so they hopefully have a good handle on the cars.
“We have been very successful with the current-generation Dallara F3 chassis in the F3 Open and feel sure that the knowledge gained there, where we won 11 from 18 races in 2013 to become Champions, will stand us in good stead in 2014 as we start this new and exciting challenge. The FIA Formula 3 European Championship is the leading junior category in international single-seater racing and is seen as a stepping stone to Formula 1. 25 of the last 28 Formula One World Drivers Championships have been won by drivers who raced successfully in Formula 3.” Stated Team Manager and multiple Formula Ford Champion Gavin Wills.
The Corby based team will soon start testing the machines in both Britain and Spain, where conditions will give West-Tec a good handle on a wide range of weather they will experience during the course of an average season.
Co-Team Manager John Miller said: “We are absolutely delighted to be racing in the FIA F3 European Championship in 2014, and especially pleased to have a partnership with Mercedes-Benz. We have ordered new F314 chassis from Dallara and I am sure we will be able to fight at the front from the off – especially with the driving talent we have been able to secure.”
That driving talent is yet to be confirmed but there are any number of talented youngsters wanting a crack at F3 glory with West-Tec – a team certainly good for the job.
