As the season preparations get even closer for the two official DTM tests, BMW Motorsport has decided to unveil four of the eight liveries that will adorn the grid in 2014, ahead of the first official ITR test in Hungary later on this month. The other four that will be piloted by Augusto Farfus, Marco Wittmann, António Félix da Costa and Maxime Martin will hit the track and break cover at the famed F1 track where the DTM will race later on in the year.
2011 champion Martin Tomczyk, who lines up in Team Schnitzer after two difficult years in Team RMG, will again race in the BMW M Performance colours in the new M4 DTM. The former Audi Sport driver is proud to be racing in the colours for the third successive season: “White with blue and red stripes: those are the classic BMW Motorsport colours.”
His successor in the pantheon of DTM’s title linage, new team mate Bruno Spengler, will also be in the car he calls his ‘Black Beast’, the BMW Bank M4 DTM. The livery that is associated with his title win in Munich’s comeback year back in 2012 is always one the Franco-Canadian likes to have as his: “I have a great relationship with BMW Bank. The ‘Drive like Bruno’ events that take place each season are just as much fun for me as they are for the participants.”
Ex-F1 ace Timo Glock, who remains in Team MTEK, secured his maiden DTM win at the series finale in Hockenheim during his rookie season. The father-of-one returns back to action in the unmistakable DEUTSCHE POST colours in his M4: “I have had a very good partnership with Deutsche Post for such a long time that I am obviously proud to appear in its colours again in 2014.”
Joey Hand, who now gears up for his third season in the series alongside commitments with Team RLL in the Tudor United SportsCar Series, will now get another new livery for the third straight year.
The Team RBM-based American, who showed a major increase in improvement last year with several top five finishes will now be driving in the Crowne Plaza Hotels livery, as he continues his well documented partnership with the brand: “We’ve worked together since my time with BMW Team RLL in North America. really like the BMW M4 DTM in this new design. It looks quick, and my experience tells me that cars that look quick are quick.”
The fans at the traditional BMW Welt presentation at Munich in just over a fortnight will see all eight cars, as all three manufacturers look to lighting up the timing screens in the pursuit of glory.
