Barcelona Gets World RX Round For 2015

1 Mins read

The Circuit de Catalunya will host a round of the 2015 FIA World Rallycross Championship.

The circuit has been used as a Formula 1 venue since its building in 1991 and was also used as a venue for the 1992 Summer Olympic Games as well as hosting rounds of the MotoGP World Championship.

Barcelona now becomes the second major city to host a round of the World RX alongside Istanbul, which will host the Championship’s first city race at the Intercity Istanbul Park in October of this year.

“This is extremely positive news for our Championship,” said Managing Director at World RX, Martin Anayi. “It’s a new market for us and the organisers in Barcelona have worked extremely hard to help get this project off the ground. The team are very experienced having previously brought X Games to the city so I have no doubt that the same level of professionalism will be delivered in our Championship. Work will shortly be underway on the new rallycross track and I’m excited by the prospect of a World RX race in one of the world’s major economic and sporting hubs.”

Further details of the Barcelona World RX event will be revealed at a dedicated press conference set to be held in Barcelona later in the year.
