Ben Davis will make his car-racing debut in the Michelin Clio Cup Series at Snetterton at the end of the month with Finesse Motorsport.
Davis has decided to make the step up to car-racing after competing in the MSA British Superkart Championship since 2010, and joins the grid in the headline ‘Racecar class’ in an ex-Jake Giddings Clio racer.
Davis, who has previously been a finalist in Team HARD’s VW Cup Scholarship competitions, is looking forward to taking to the grid in Norfolk under the ‘TECS Distribution Ltd’ banner.
“I am delighted to have got the deal in place to finally make my debut in the series,” said Davis. “There’s a lot to learn coming from racing 140mph Superkarts, but the guys at Finesse have helped me out a lot and I hope to be not too far off the pace at Snetterton.
“The Michelin Clio Cup Series has proven itself to be a highly competitive championship and along with the nature of the cars, I believe it to be an excellent progression for a driver like myself.”
Davis joins Pete Bennett in the Finesse awning, and the team is working on a potential deal for a third car in the ‘racecar’ class ahead of the meeting on August 30/31.
“We’re really looking forward to giving Ben his debut next weekend, he should go well,” said team principal Neil Giddings. “He’s been in the background all season, coming along to the races and supporting Pete [Bennett] who he knows from Superkarts.
“He did a little bit of testing with us, had some coaching from Jake [Giddings – former Renault UK Clio Cup racer] and then got the bug. He’s only had a couple of days in the car but I’m confident he’ll do a good job. There is a chance we may run three cars next weekend, we’re still working on that, and we’re more than happy to hear from any other drivers considering racing in the Clios.”
