To celebrate the recent release of GRID Autosport, Motorbase Performance and game designers, Codemasters, have teamed up to bring the Ford Focus ST to the new title, and the BTCC squad have joined forces with The Checkered Flag to offer fans the chance to win a free copy of the new game, plus a signed Motorbase cap.
GRID Autosport features over 100 routes across 22 locations, offering a huge array of some of world’s most exciting contemporary and classic high-performance machines to race with. Among those include single seater racing such as Formula 3, endurance and GT events and finally, an updated Touring Cars format featuring many of the current models used in BTCC and WTCC.
Assisting the Codemasters team have been current BTCC outfit, Motorbase Performance, the Kent-based squad having competed in the BTCC since 2006 and recently claimed victory at Knockhill in 2014 thanks to their driver, Mat Jackson.
The game will feature the current NGTC-specification Ford Focus ST in its Touring Cars sector, and Motorbase Performance have been integral in assisting with the development closely alongside Codemasters, providing support and input into the visual design, performance and audio of the Ford Focus ST to ensure a realistic feel to the new title. The Motorbase Performance logo also features as environment hoarding within the career mode, and can be slapped onto your customisable vehicles as a sticker.
“The design philosophy behind GRID Autosport was to create a really focussed racing game,” said James Nicholls, Chief Games Designer, GRID Autosport. “We’ve jettisoned anything that doesn’t support the on-track competition and we’ve chosen a selection of cars and tracks that will give players a range of different racing experiences.
“Having Motorbase Performance on board has been a vital ingredient in helping us to deliver authenticity to the gamer. In developing GRID Autosport, we consulted extensively with the GRID Community and professional racing drivers such as Mat Jackson and Jack Clarke, and their input has really helped us to strike the right balance for players whilst authentically capturing the feel of our Touring Cars.”
Codemasters are no stranger to touring car titles down the years, having introduced several editions of the massively popular TOCA game franchise back in the late 90s while the BTCC was in the latter stages of its much-loved Super Touring era.
The games, still nostalgic today, were followed by several Playstation 2 editions including three editions of TOCA Race Driver, the first of which incorporated the 2001 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, leading up to the Playstation 3 editions of GRID and now GRID Autosport.
“It’s been a real eye-opener working behind the scenes with the Codemasters team”, said Oly Collins, Motorbase Performance Team Manager. “Many of us are already big fans of the GRID games and I grew up playing TOCA, so to play our part with GRID Autosport is awesome. We were flattered to have been approached and delighted to have been involved with such a prestigious brand as GRID. Hopefully our input will help to deliver a new dimension to the game and to introduce a new fan base to Motorbase Performance, Touring Cars and GT racing.
