Organisers of the Michelin Clio Cup Series have announced their first batch of entries in the Roadcar class for 2015.
As reported on The Checkered Flag earlier this week, multiple category race-winner Jake Honour is returning to the class for his third consecutive campaign and the Milltek Sport-backed racer leads the list of confirmed entries so far.
Two of the top four drivers from last season, Sarah Franklin and John Creasey are returning for the new campaign. British Women Racing Drivers’ Club committee member Franklin will continue running as a privateer, while Creasey will once again be running with Paint Perfect Motorsport.
Rally driver turned racer Luke Pinder, a double race-winner last year, is set to return in his family-run Clio Renaultsport 197, while there are two newcomers confirmed for the grid – Tyler Lidsey, brother of Race class front-runner Brett, is running with 20Ten Racing, while Dan Kirkby will combine a Clio campaign with a continued entry in the BMW Compact Cup.
“It’s an important year for the Road Series, we’re working hard to build the grid from last year and so far so good,” said championship promoter Simon North.
“It’s great to have drivers like Jake, Sarah, John and Luke returning alongside some very exciting newcomers. Tyler [Lidsey] and Dan [Kirby] are coming into the series from different backgrounds, and that’s what this series is all about.
“There is certainly a lot going on behind the scenes and there are a number of competitors, both experienced and rookie racers, looking to potentially join the Road Series. We’re certain to have our best grid yet.”
Privateer Nic Harrison, who finished second in the class last year, is expected to return, as is defending champions Westbourne Motorsport and category stalwarts SWB Motorsport.
