Derek Palmer Jr will not take part in the second and third Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship races from Donington Park, an engine problem putting his Infiniti out of the meeting.
The Scot had finished the opening race of the day at the Leicester circuit 22nd overall, but after examination following the encounter, a serious engine-related problem for the Infiniti Q50 has forced Palmer out of the rest of the day’s action.
“The engine just let go”, Palmer Jr told The Checkered Flag. “Not 100% sure what it is yet.
“Initially, we pulled the data off the car and there’s nothing there that stands out.
“Between qualifying and the race today we changed the balance and it’s improved again but from the very start I was on the radio and we were lacking power and couldn’t get sixth gear anywhere, it just wasn’t pulling so it was a bit confusing – we had no warning signals on the dash though, everything was reading as it should.
“The one thing we can take from it is that having changed the car, our corner entry and exit speeds are better – but it’s disappointing not to be able to capitalise on that and to be out of race three.”
