Kieron Vernon was victorious in the opening race of the Donington Park weekend of the F3 Cup, his first race of the season.
Having started from pole position, Vernon feel to the back of the seven-car field after a slow start on a drying track after the weather at Donington Park decided to be typically British and unsettled, but soon settled into his rhythm and took over the lead.
Aaron Steele jumped the start from third on the grid and was handed a ten second penalty that would prove costly as Vernon stretched his lead. Steele then had to fend off the advances of Stuart Wiltshire.
Wiltshire would eventually drop back from Steele and came under attack himself from Jacopo Sebastiani, who made a move for the final podium spot at Redgate at roughly half race distance, but the move failed and ultimately Sebastiani settled for fourth.
Adrian Holey was the last unlapped driver in fifth position in his older Trophy Class car, while lapped were Daniel Tapinos, after a spin at the Old Hairpin and two trips through the gravel at the chicane, and Matt Payne.
Steele leads the championship after three races on 84 points, 14 clear of Wiltshire.
