As part of a video shoot for Red Bull, 2011 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters champion, Martin Tomczyk, and rally driver Nasser Al-Attiyah swapped cars, and saw just how different their BMWs are.
Tomczyk drives a BMW M4 DTM in the highly competitive German touring car series, whilst Al-Attiyah races a MINI ALL4 Racing in the World Rally Championship.
Tomczyk took the wheel of Al-Attiyah’s Mini in Dubai: “Driving the MINI ALL4 Racing through the sand and over the dunes in Dubai was a fascinating experience and was so much fun. The car has an incredible amount of torque – and the test in the dunes was an amazing adrenalin rush even for an experienced race driver such as myself. It’s totally different to driving on a circuit. You can only appreciate what Nasser and the other MINI drivers really achieve at the Rally Dakar when you have tried it yourself.”
This morning, Tomczyk returned the favour, letting the Qatari driver take his M4 for a spin at Hockenheim during practice for the DTM season opener tomorrow: “I have contested a few races on asphalt throughout my career, but it has always been my dream to drive a DTM car. The BMW M4 DTM is fantastic. The aerodynamics are really noticeable in the turns in particular. There’s an incredible amount of grip. I was also impressed by the brakes of the DTM car.”

The DTM returns tomorrow afternoon with the first of two races, in which Tomczyk will try and start his campaign for the 2015 title alongside a very strong field of drivers, including a total of 8 BMW M4 DTMs.
