Maximilian Günther had a strong weekend at Hockenheim for round two of the 2015 FIA European Formula 3 Championship, with the Mücke Motorsport driver finishing fifth, fourth and fifth in the three races.
The German, runner-up in the ADAC Formel Masters championship in 2014 to team-mate Mikkel Jensen, was disappointed however to see a podium finish disappear with a late race spin in race three, dropping from third to sixth as a result, although this became fifth again when another Mücke Motorsport driver, Santino Ferrucci, was penalised for a rash overtaking manoeuvre.
“That was quite annoying and should not actually have happened,” said Günther about his race three spin. “But all in all, it was a great weekend. I’ve secured a decent haul of points towards the championship and shown that I can compete with the front-runners in the Formula 3 Championship. And next time I’ll finish on the podium as well!
“A big thank you to my team! I wanted to do everything possible to repay their hard work – and that’s just what I did. My speed was really great the whole weekend.”
Günther now sits seventh in the championship, and the leading Mücke Motorsport driver, with the series now heading to Pau for round three.
