After coming so close to a podium finish in Hockenheim before a lap race spin, Maximilian Günther was able to finally take his place on the podium in Pau, finishing the third race in second place behind race winner Antonio Giovinazzi.
The German driver, racing as part of a five-strong Mücke Motorsport line-up in 2015, was elated to finally stand on the podium, and was also the rookie winner around the street circuit, which was also his first time.
“It’s a mega feeling, just phenomenal,” said Günther after his podium finish in the Pau Grand Prix. “Being so close at the last race weekend in Hockenheim made me even more determined to finish on the podium in Pau.
“The race on the street circuit was a real challenge, so now I can really savour that success.”
Despite this achievement, Günther knows that he and the team need to find a little more speed from his car to go the next step and claim his maiden FIA European Formula 3 Championship victory.
“As far as speed goes, we are not yet quite where we would like to be,” insisted Günther.
“We need a little more edge in order to win a race on our own account. I’m sure we can improve even more along with the team.”
