Mike Rockenfeller on Pole for Race 2

1 Mins read

In a hectic qualifying session for Hockenheim race two, Mike Rockenfeller set the fastest time for Audi Sport Team Phoenix, a 1:34.516.

The drying track meant that for the second half of the session, the lead changed almost every time a driver set a lap time. Ultimately, Rockenfeller’s time was unbeatable.

In second will be Miguel Molina, who set a time just 0.030 seconds short of the session best. Completing an Audi top three will be Mattias Ekström.

The first BMW on the grid will be 2014 champion Marco Wittmann, who set a time 0.452 seconds off the pace. Next to him will be another Audi, the #48 of Edoardo Mortara.

Row four will be made up of two BMWs, with Martin Tomczyk and Antonio Felix da Costa qualifying 6th and 7th. Gary Paffett had a disappointing race yesterday, but will be hoping to score some good points starting from 8th, the highest Mercedes. Next to him will be Maxime Martin, and rounding out the top 10 is Robert Wickins‘ Mercedes.

Despite finishing third in yesterday’s race, Paul di Resta could only manage to qualify 12th for race 2. 2nd place yesterday went to Pascal Wehrlein, who could only manage to set a time 1 second off the pace, starting him from 18th. Jamie Green, yesterday’s winner, will start from 19th.

In this season’s new format, race 2 will be 60 minutes long, and drivers will have to make a mandatory pitstop. It will start at 13:43 CEST, 12:43 UK time.
