1 Mins read

Felix Rosenqvist stormed to another pole position on Friday as he took top spot for race one of the FIA European Formula 3 Championship round at the Autodromo Nazionale de Monza.

The Swedish driver took his fifth official pole position of the season (he lost two further pole positions at Silverstone due to a technical infringement) with a best time of 1m43.766s, which was 0.183s faster than his Prema Powerteam team-mate Jake Dennis.

Dennis will drop five places on the grid however following the post-race penalty received in the previous round in Pau for causing a collision, so Santino Ferrucci will start of the front row for the first time in his European Formula 3 career in the leading Mücke Motorsport machine, with the young American the only other driver other than the two Prema drivers to get beneath 1m44s during the session.

Alexander Albon was fourth quickest in the session for Signature, ahead of Raoul Hyman of Team West-Tec F3, while Lance Stroll of Prema Powerteam will share the third row of the grid with Mücke Motorsport’s Mikkel Jensen.

Dennis will start seventh after his penalty alongside championship leader Antonio Giovinazzi, with the Jagonya Ayam with Carlin driver set to have his work cut out for him if he wants to continue his 100% record of finishing on the podium this season.

George Russell was ninth quickest for Carlin ahead of Charles Leclerc of Van Amersfoort Racing, who will be disappointed to be only tenth.

Two other drivers will take grid penalties in Monza, with Signature’s Dorian Boccolacci taking the final ten-place penalty for an engine change that unfortunately happened during the Pau weekend, while Alessio Lorandi of Van Amersfoort Racing will drop ten places in all three races this weekend for the same reason.
