Shaun Thong Ready for Audi Sport TT Cup

1 Mins read

19 year-old Shaun Thong from Hong Kong will be one of 18 young drivers racing in the brand-new Audi Sport TT Cup, starting this weekend at Hockenheim, supporting the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters.

Thong, who is part of Audi Sport Asia’s young driver development programme, has been chosen as one of just 18 drivers from 13 countries to have secured a seat in the TT Cup. He will also compete in the Blancpain Endurance Series this year alongside Marcus Winkelhock and Marchy Lee. Furthermore, he will race with Alex Yoong and Franky Cheng for the first all-Asian Audi team at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in a few weeks’ time.

There will be six weekends of two races each in this year’s TT Cup season, and all six will support the highly-prestigious DTM. All cars are identical, and so driver skill is of highest importance.

“We are delighted that Shaun will be racing the new Audi Sport TT Cup this season,” said Rene Koneberg, Director of Audi Sport customer racing Asia. “Audi Sport customer racing Asia is committed to pioneering Asian motorsport development, and through our young driver development programme, we are pleased to offer fledging talents, such as Shaun, unique opportunities to hone their skill and participate in some of the world’s most prestigious events.”

Round 1 of the Audi Sport TT Cup season will take place tomorrow morning.
