Ex-GP2 Series Champion, Fabio Leimer will join the Virgin Racing Formula E team for the final race of the season in London. Leimer will hope to score points and help the team in their battle in the constructors championship.

He will replace Jaime Alguersuari. While his new team mate, Sam Bird will be hoping for good results in his home event. Bird also still has a mathematical chance of clinching the title, but would have to hope for a perfect two days, something no driver has achieved this season.

Leimer has driven the Spark-Renault SRT_01E before. He has experience with the Amlin Aguri team for whom he’s competed as test driver for throughout the season. He also drove for them at the pre-season tests in Donington.

When speaking to Formula E, Leimer said that; “As a racing driver, I love a challenge and so joining Virgin Racing for the Visa London ePrix will be a great test. It’s going to be an incredible and unique experience racing on the London street circuit and an even more special occasion racing for a new team in their home race. I’m looking forward to racing alongside Sam and hopefully contributing to a successful season finale for the team.”

Meanwhile the Team Principal of Virgin Racing, added: “We are delighted to have a driver of Fabio’s quality and experience join the team for the final race of the season in London.” Alex Tai went on to say that “This weekend promises to be a fantastic end to a great championship and so we’re looking forward to seeing Fabio and Sam finish the season for the team in style.”

This also comes after recent news that Virgin Media are to become Formula E partners to the London ePrix. They would become the local partner for the Battersea Park races on June 27 and 28, working in collaboration with the series on a range of marketing activations, which will also include track signage during the double header event.
