George Russell took his first podium finish since his race two victory at the season opening round at Silverstone in the final race at Spa-Francorchamps last weekend, admitting he made the right call on what tyre to use.
The Carlin driver decided to start on the dry weather slick tyres that ultimately turned out to be the correct choice on a damp track in Belgium, with the British driver capitalising on the misfortune of others to finish in third position, consolidating his fifth place in the championship at the same time.
“At the start we were debating whether to take a gamble and go on wets but we stayed on slicks which worked for us and gave us a really good race as a result,” said Russell.
“We started in 21st after a difficult qualifying and stayed out of trouble to enjoy a good race to get the podium. I’m looking forward to building on this over the upcoming races.”
