After dominating practice on Friday morning, Felix Rosenqvist returned to the Red Bull Ring track during the opening qualifying session of the FIA European Formula 3 Championship weekend to take his tenth pole position of the season.
Rosenqvist led a Prema Powerteam 1-2-3 in the session, with the Swedish driver setting a time of 1m24.510s to beat team-mate Jake Dennis by just 0.007s, while Lance Stroll was third a further 0.184s back.
Championship leader Antonio Giovinazzi will join Stroll on the second row, with the Jagonya Ayam with Carlin driver 0.241s back from the pole time of Rosenqvist, but 0.013s quicker than Van Amersfoort Racing’s Charles Leclerc, who sits second in the championship, only 7.5 points behind Giovinazzi.
Sergio Sette Camara was an impressive sixth for Motopark ahead of George Russell of Carlin, while Alexander Albon will start eighth for Signature ahead of Markus Pommer of Motopark and Gustavo Menezes of Jagonya Ayam with Carlin.
The third Jagonya Ayam with Carlin driver Ryan Tveter did not participate in the session due to a practice crash earlier in the day that broke the tub of his car. He will start the race on Saturday from the pit lane as a result.
