Nick Cassidy will make his FIA European Formula 3 Championship return in the upcoming races at Portimao after being announced as Brandon Maisano’s replacement at Prema Powerteam for the next two rounds of the series.
The twenty-one-year-old New Zealander has been competing in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship in 2015, and will partner Felix Rosenqvist, Jake Dennis and Lance Stroll in the Italian team for the races in Portugal and at the Nurburgring in Germany.
Cassidy raced two events and the Macau Grand Prix in 2014 with ThreeBond with T-sport, having raced in two one-off events in 2013, one with EuroInternational and the other with Carlin.
“Firstly I would like to thank Prema Powerteam for this opportunity, one that I am really looking forward to,” said Cassidy. “With their knowledge I am looking to learn as much as possible, to develop myself, with the aim of good results in these two race meetings.
“I am sure there will be a few little differences to racing in Japan, but I feel prepared, and am looking forward to the challenge.”
Team Manager Rene Rosin has welcomed the arrival of Cassidy into the team, and feels the New Zealander deserves the opportunity to show what he can do in the series.
“I am delighted to rely on Cassidy, a very quick and consistent driver who has not yet had the chance to show his real value at European level,” said Rosin.
“I wish that, driving with Prema at Portimao, where two days of testing will be held before the race, and at Nurburgring, Nick will be able to score the results he deserves.”
